Zuigetsu painted and made woodblock prints of flowers. His drawing style was influenced by European art in which an object’s shape and color were drawn very accurately. This realistic style became popular in Japan in the early 1900s when Japan changed from a Chinese-influenced country to a European-influenced country. Thirteen examples of Zuigetsu’s prints are shown in this gallery. Click on a picture to enlarge it. Print 13 was included in a series called Zuigetsu Sōka Gafu (i.e., Zuigetsu’s Picture Album of Flowers), published in the 1930s and republished in 1978.
